Iran’s Presentation of Digital Maritime Services
In this meeting, the Islamic Republic of Iran, represented by Soheila Sheibani-Moghaddam, Senior Expert in ICT and Smart Ports, and Hossein Sedighi, Head of Bushehr Port Affairs Department from the Ports and Maritime Organization, presented the country’s experience and technical achievements in the digitalization of maritime services while explaining the process of implementing the Maritime Single Window in Iran.
The Integrated Maritime Administration System (IMAS), as a national system developed by domestic experts, was one of the main focuses of Iran’s presentation. In this meeting, the system’s capabilities in providing maritime services and the possibility of electronic information exchange with stakeholders were explained — a capability aligned with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization and data exchange standards in the Maritime Single Window.
Domestic Development Praised by IMO Experts
Iran’s presentation, focusing on the operational experience and indigenous capacities of the country in implementing the MSW, drew the attention of IMO experts and representatives of participating countries. The domestic development of the system and the electronic nature of its communications with stakeholders were among the points commended at this meeting.
The implementation of the Maritime Single Window has been mandatory since January 1, 2024, within the framework of the International Maritime Organization’s requirements and amendments to the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL), for the electronic exchange of information related to the entry and departure of ships at the ports of member states. Therefore, Iran’s experience in this area is part of the country’s ports’ movement toward smart services, data integration, and the facilitation of maritime and port processes.
Regional Cooperation and Data Standardization Discussed
This workshop also examined topics including data standardization, electronic information exchange among stakeholder agencies, the requirements of the FAL Convention and the IMO Compendium, national approaches to developing the Maritime Single Window and Port Community Systems (PCS), and areas of regional cooperation.
Among other notable aspects of Iran’s presence at this event was the active participation of an Iranian female expert in an international specialized meeting in the field of modern maritime technologies — a presence that, alongside presenting the country’s technical achievements, reflects the specialized capacity of Iranian women in the field of maritime affairs and marine technologies.
